Event Log Triage privacy policy
Effective date: 2026-10-21
Event Log Triage is a Windows desktop application published by Pederson Business Solutions LLC, Minnesota, USA. This policy explains what the app does with data. The short version: the app does not collect, transmit or store any personal data, and it never contacts us. The only outside service it talks to is the Microsoft Store, for its own licence.
What the app reads
The app reads Windows Event Log data from three places, each only when you ask it to:
- Files (
.evtx) that you open, drop onto the window, or pass on the command line. - Live channels on the computer the app is running on.
- Remote computers that you name, over the Windows Event Log remoting protocol built into Windows, using your current Windows credentials or credentials you type into the app.
Event log data can contain personal information such as user names and computer names. The app shows that data to you on your screen. It does not copy it anywhere unless you export it, and an export is a file you choose the location of.
What the app stores on your computer
Under %LOCALAPPDATA%\EventLogTriage\:
filters.json: saved filters you create (names, event IDs, providers, computers, levels, time ranges and search text). You can delete this file at any time.settings.txt: your theme choice, how many times the app has been opened, the date it was first opened, and whether it has asked you for a Store rating. These stay on your computer and only decide when the one-time rating request appears.crash.log: written only if the app crashes, containing the error and a stack trace from the app itself. It is never sent anywhere. You can delete it at any time.
Credentials typed for a remote computer are held in memory only for the connection and are not written to disk.
What the app sends over the network
Two things only:
- The connection to a remote computer that you explicitly add, which goes directly from your computer to that computer.
- Requests to the Microsoft Store, through Windows, to check whether this copy is a trial or a full licence, to show the Store's purchase dialog when you choose Buy, and to show the Store's rating dialog. Microsoft handles these under Microsoft's privacy statement; the app adds no data of its own to them.
The app has no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting service, no update checks, no accounts and no advertising. Updates arrive through the Microsoft Store.
Data we receive
We receive no data from the app. If you contact support at [email protected] we receive what you send us, keep it to answer you, and do not share it.
Purchases are handled by the Microsoft Store under Microsoft's privacy statement; we see aggregate sales figures from Microsoft, not your payment details.
This website
pedersonbusiness.com is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising scripts, and has no forms. Its only script switches between the light and dark themes, remembering your choice in your own browser, and copies the support address when you ask it to. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site. If we later turn on Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless service that counts page views, this paragraph will say so first.
Children
The app is a technical tool for IT professionals and is not directed at children.
Changes
If the app ever changes what it collects, this page and the Store listing will say so before the change ships.
